Myfxbook balance vs return: the number a trading chart cannot explain on its own

Published by Brink Investment ·

Account balance is not investment return.

A balance tells you how much the account shows at a point in time. To understand how that amount changed, you also need to look at money going in, money coming out and the trading results between those dates.

That distinction matters when evaluating a gold-trading expert advisor such as Happy Gold. A large final balance may attract attention, but it does not tell you what another trader should expect to earn.

Risk warning: automated gold and forex/CFD trading is high risk. You can lose your entire deposit. Historical performance does not predict your results or limit future losses.

Begin with the money moving in and out

Consider a simplified, hypothetical account:

ItemAmount
Starting balance$1,000
New deposit$2,000
Net trading result$200
Withdrawal$500
Ending balance$2,700

The ending balance is much larger than the starting balance. The account did not earn the entire difference by trading. Most of the increase in this example came from the deposit.

This table is bookkeeping, not a return calculation. It excludes open-position profit or loss and assumes the trading result is net of the relevant charges.

To calculate a meaningful percentage return, you also need to account for the timing of cash flows and the calculation method. Do not turn a difference between two balance snapshots into a performance percentage by dividing by the first balance and ignoring deposits.

Read the account fields together

The Happy Gold VTMarkets M30 public profile, checked on October 13, 2026, showed these selected fields: [1]

FieldPublic snapshot
Balance$332,158.62
Equity$332,158.62
Profit$342,158.62
Deposits$5,000.00
Withdrawals$15,000.00
Gain+30,156.13%
Abs. Gain+6,843.17%
Drawdown25.95%

Those are values displayed by the public profile at the time checked. They are not an audited statement, an expected customer result or a projection.

Notice the cash-flow relationship: $5,000 in deposits plus $342,158.62 in reported profit minus $15,000 in withdrawals equals the displayed $332,158.62 balance.

Also notice that Gain and Abs. Gain are different fields. Do not relabel one as the other or treat either as a customer's promised return. Myfxbook's help provides separate topics for Gain, Absolute Gain, Drawdown and Verification; consult its definitions when interpreting the record. [2]

The balance and equity matched at this snapshot. That does not mean they always match, or that the account had no risk between updates.

A balance screenshot leaves out important questions

Ask what the account is and what you can actually inspect.

At the research check, the linked profile was labeled Real (USD), VT Markets, Automated, 1:500 and MetaTrader 4. It also said open trades were private. [1]

That provides useful context and a clear limitation. The public record is for a particular account on MT4, not direct evidence of every Happy Gold version on MT5 or every broker configuration.

Check the account's update time and visible history. Inspect the current verification statuses before calling a record verified. A Real label and verification badges answer different questions; neither promises profitable future trading.

A public record gives you information to investigate. It is not permission to skip the investigation.

Put drawdown beside the headline gain

The public profile showed 25.95% drawdown at this check. [1] That number belongs next to the performance discussion, not at the bottom of a buying page.

It is historical, not a ceiling on future losses. A strategy can experience a larger drawdown later, and a different account can behave differently.

Here is a separate mathematical illustration. If an account loses 25% of its value, it needs a gain of about 33.3% on the remaining value to return to its starting point, assuming no deposits or withdrawals:

Required recovery gain = loss fraction ÷ (1 − loss fraction).

A $1,000 account falling to $750 must earn $250 on $750 to recover. This example explains loss-recovery arithmetic. It is not a forecast or a calculation of the linked account's next result.

Do not confuse automated execution with reduced financial risk.

Check whether the page and the source use the same date

Brink's homepage currently labels its $326,502.79 balance as September 25, 2026 and says the source was checked September 27. The linked account had different values when inspected for this article on October 13. [1, 3]

A dated snapshot is not inherently misleading if its date and limitations are clear. It becomes harder to interpret when a hero figure looks current while the chart below uses an older date.

When comparing figures, match the date, account and field. Do not mix one day's balance with another day's gain or drawdown. Save the source and checked-at date used for your own decision.

This snapshot was rechecked on October 13, 2026. The live profile changes; compare the current source before making a decision.

Use a track-record reading checklist

Before drawing a conclusion, record:

  • Account identity, real/demo label, platform and broker.
  • Date checked and the source's latest update.
  • Deposits and withdrawals, not only ending balance.
  • Equity as well as balance.
  • Gain-field definitions and the analysis period.
  • Historical drawdown and information hidden from public view.
  • Software version and settings, where confirmed.
  • What remains unknown about your own account and execution.

If a key item is unavailable, mark it unknown. Do not replace a missing fact with an assumption that happens to support a purchase.

Decide from the evidence, not the size of the number

Review Brink Investment's Happy Gold evidence and risk discussion. Compare the published record with the product requirements and the information you still need for your own decision.

Choosing not to trade is a valid outcome of due diligence.
